Vlad was born in Bucarest, Romania in 1980.

 

He started his music lessons at the age of 2..

 

At the age of 4, he won his first national competition, winning first prize piano, second prize violin.

 

At the age of 9, he was the only 9 year-old in a group of otherwise 16 to 23 year old Romanian music students invited to perform in London by the London Symphony Orchestra. He was interviewed by BBC Radio 3, was mentioned in the Daily Telegraph as "nine-year-old virtuoso pianist and violinist, Vlad Bourceanu" and played at the South Bank and Barbican Centres.

 

Vlad came to live in London at the age of 11, after a year of study at Rome's "Santa Cecilia" Music Conservatoire.

 

He has studied at prestigious establishments such as the Purcell School of Music and the Royal Academy of Music.

 

He holds a BMus degree in Performance (Violin), as well as an Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) Diploma.

 

As a solo violinist, he took part in Masterclasses given by maestri such as Zakhar Bron, Ruggiero Ricci, Maurice Hasson and many others, and won 2nd prize in the Royal Academy of Music's "Beethoven Violin Concerto" competition. He has studied with many renowned violin professors, including Professor Erich Gruenberg OBE.

 

As an orchestra player, he has played under Bernard Haitink KBE, Sir Colin Davis, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Charles Mackerras, Edward Gardner and many others. He has also led orchestras under Kurt Masur, Colin Metters, Ilan Volkov and others.

 

He was Assistant Conductor for an Opera Holland Park/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra “La Traviata” production, having studied conducting as part of his degree elective with Denise Ham.

 

He has played chamber music with Mina Miletic, Michelle Bruil, Chiao-Ying Chang, Matthew Midgley, Vassilis Saitis, Gesine Kalbhenn, Felipe Quaresma and many others. He took part in Prussia Cove Masterclasses with his chamber group, tutored by Maestro Gyorgy Sebok, and performed for John Suchet's Beethoven lecture series.

 

He was one of the performers of his chamber music co-composition, "Variations on Pierre Boulez’s 'Notations' " at the Barbican Hall, in the presence of M. Pierre Boulez himself.

 

He is also a dedicated violin and music theory teacher.

 

He has recently given recitals at venues such as St. Martin-in-the-Fields and St. James's Piccadilly, and has just performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto under the baton of John K. Andrews.

 

He has also, since 2007, worked as a music and theatre journalist and critic.

 

Vlad currently lives in Harrow (Greater London), in the United Kingdom..
